Barnsley are attempting to raid Scottish football for a second time after seeing a bid for Dundee United’s Gary Mackay-Steven rejected.

Reds boss Danny Wilson has already secured the services of the 2013-2014 Scottish Championship Player of the Year Kane Hemmings from Cowdenbeath and now he is trying to grab one of the top flight’s highly rated talents.

The 23-year-old winger started his career at Ross County before securing a dream move to Premier League giants Liverpool in 2007.

But it was following a move back north of the border, to Dundee United in 2011 that Mackay-Steven has really shone.

The former Airdrie man had a fantastic 2013-2014 campaign, which included scoring twice against Rangers to send the Terrors to the Scottish Cup Final where he played 64 minutes in a 2-0 defeat to St Johnstone

He has also won three Scottish Under 21 caps and made his full debut for the national side in 2013 in a 0-0 draw with the USA.
