Former Barnsley captain Paul Reid could be in trouble with the police after Stockport manager Jim Gannon said he would report the now Colchester defender for a challenge at the weekend that left Stockport's Matty McNeil with concussion.

Reid who made 128 appearances for the Reds and skippered the side to promotion in 2006 moved to the new Colchester Community Stadium in the summer and has made 13 starts for the club who were promoted to the Championship with Barnsley but were relegated last season.

On Saturday Colchester played Stockport in League One and Reid and McNeil both went into a challenge where Reid appeared to go over McNeil and caught him in the head. Reid was booked but McNeil was carried off.

County boss Gannon told BBC Radio Manchester:

"We are collecting all the evidence and presenting it to the police.

"It's up to them to take criminal proceedings against the player in question,"
