Andy Ritchie's search for a defender on loan as taken a knock after number one target Norwich's Jason Shackell was stretchered off just 10 minutes into a reserve game that Ritchie had gone to watch him in.
Shackell impressed for The Canaries in the Premiership last season but has recently fallen down the pecking order and would have been a big coup for Barnsley.
Ritchie told the Official Site:
" We did go to watch Shackell play for Norwich's reserves but he is just one of a number of players we are looking at"
The need for a defender isn't as urgent now with Saturday's game postponed. Matt Carbon is likely to be fit for the next game, at home to Blackpool on 15th October.
