Rooney Deal On Hold

Barnsley may have to wait until the opening of the transfer window in the New Year to sign midfielder John Rooney after the deal hit a snag over international clearance.

The Reds were all set to sign the 21 year old younger brother of Manchester United's Wayne, this week in a short term deal but it has now emerged that his deal with former club Orlando City was still valid after the closing of the previous transfer window on the 31st August, meaning Rooney cannot move to another club outside the window.

The Reds General Manager Don Rowing told BBC Radio Sheffield:

"There is some confusion about when his deal expired.

We're awaiting confirmation from the Football Association whether he is eligible to sign for us. Hopefully, we'll have some news on it in the next few days.

If they say we can't bring him now then we intend to sign him on 1 January."

Meanwhile striker Craig Davies failed to add to his international caps during Wales' 2-0 defeat in Croatia last night.

The Oakwell side's 26 year old top scorer gained his first cap in five years in the 2-1 victory over Scotland on Friday but remained on the bench throughout yesterday's match in Osijek.
