Reports amongst local media are suggesting Barnsley have made a £25,000 offer for Glentoran midfielder Jordan Stewart.

The 20 year old was the subject of serious interest from Championship side Middlesbrough in January but a move failed to materialise.

Now Reds head coach Lee Johnson is ready to strike with Barnsley desperate for attacking reinforcements ahead of the new season.

Stewart has played for Danske Bank Premiership outfit Glentoran since 2013 and has scored 21 goals in 64 appearances, helping them to their 22nd Irish Cup last season, setting up the winning goal against Portadown.

However The Reds may need to up their bid as the midfielder only signed a new contract in January, which ties him to the club until 2018.

Meanwhile Reds fans could be set to see a welcome familiar face at Oakwell with the club close to agreeing a six-month loan with Manchester United for Ben Pearson.

The 20 year old who progressed through the ranks at Old Trafford played 22 times for Barnsley last season, ten of which they won and he hugely impressed.

Now he, along with fellow 20 year old midfielder Joe Rothwell are close to finalising terms to come to South Yorkshire for the first half of next season.

Rothwell is another graduate of the famous United Academy and has represented England from Under 16 to Under 20 level whilst also having a loan spell at Blackpool between January and March this year.

The double deal is believed to have come about after Barnsley allowed Mason Holgate and Paul Digby to train at United this week.
