Midfielder Sam Togwell has joined up with old Barnsley team-mates Paul Hayes and Grant McCann at Glanford Park after joining League One Scunthorpe United on a free transfer.

Togwell, 23 was set to join fellow League One side Yeovil Town but the deal fell through after the Glovers failed to offload a player and now "Toggers" will join Neil Adkins side as they bid for promotion back to the Championship after relegation last season.

Adkins told www.scunthorpe-united.co.uk:

"He's played a lot of games in the Championship,"

"He's an energetic player - that's for sure - and he will get around the field of play.

"He is the sort of player who can compliment the other players that we've got.

"He's a ball-winner. His nickname at Barnsley was 'Dogwell' for the simple reason that he runs around the pitch trying to win the ball.

"We need his energy in there, we want to play high-tempo football.

Togwell signed for The Reds from Crystal Palace in the summer of 2006 in a deal that saw goalkeeper Scott Flinders move in the opposite direction. He made 58 starts for The Reds and 15 substitute appearances scoring two goals.

Togwell wants promotion.
