Scothern's nightmare continues

Young Reds striker Ashley Scothern has been kept in Barnsley General Hospital overnight with a broken leg.

It's the third time in three years the teenager has suffered the same injury.

"There was nothing sinister in it, just two players going for the ball," coach Noel Blake explained. "I'm led to believe it is a fracture and it is the same leg that was broken before. It is a bitter blow for everyone."

Blake refused to speculate about Scothern's career. "To be fair to the lad I'm not even going to go down that road. We're waiting to hear more from the medical people."

Physio Mick Tarmey confirmed the limb was broken. "We're devastated for the boy, I went to the hospital with him to make sure he was as comfortable as possible," he said.

"His case will be handed over to a football orientated orthopaedic surgeon."

Lets hope the promising youngster still has a future in football.
