Scunthorpe In The Cup.

Last updated : 16 June 2015 By Rob Miles (BarnsleyBoy)

Barnsley will face Scunthorpe United in the First Round of the League Cup for the second time in two years after the sides were paired together at Glanford Park this August.

They met at Oakwell in 2013 when Barnsley were a Championship outfit and the Iron in League Two. Back then David Flitcroft’s Reds and Brian Laws Scunthorpe played out a goal-less draw before The Reds won an epic 18-penalty shootout 5-4.

They will meet on a more equal footing this time around, with Barnsley looking for only their second win in eight trips to North Lincolnshire.

The Reds have won only four of 17 visits in total but one of those has come in the League Cup. In a two-legged affair back in 1980-1981, The Reds won 1-0 at The Old Showground and then 2-1 at Oakwell to secure a 3-1 aggregate win, again in the First Round. The Reds would advance to the Fourth Round that season before being eliminated by West Ham.

The tie will be played in the week commencing the 10th August, more than likely Tuesday 11th August with a 7:45pm kick-off.
