Scunthorpe manager Mark Robins said:

"Mixed feelings, I think we almost did enough to win the game but we didn't defend a set-play and that was the disappointment.

"We've taken two good goals and we've had other opportunities to score and I don't think that we've been carved open at any point and I think they had a decent spell of possession.

"We reacted to that and made one or two changes and I think we got a foothold back in the game and we managed to restrict their chances and opportunities.

"We can improve, we will improve, but an away point is fine as long as we go and press home that advantage when we play at home next."

Interesting Stats

Barnsley have won (in normal time) only one of their last eight visits to Scunthorpe, and that came back in February.

But The Reds are unbeaten in their last three trips (W1 D2)

Barnsley have lost just three of the last 12 meetings overall but have won only five times at Scunthorpe from 20 trips.

Barnsley and Scunthorpe love meeting on Tuesdays it seems. Nine of the last 15 clashes have been on this day including six of the last seven!

In only one of the last 17 meetings has a side scored more than twice whilst only three times in the last nine has one of the teams managed to net more than once.

Josh Scowen has scored on each of his last two appearances at Glanford Park with Barnsley, one of them coming just three weeks ago.

This is the fourth cup meeting between the two sides in the last seven seasons. The Reds have lost just one of the previous three and emerged victorious via a penalty shootout in both of the last two.

Scunthorpe have had a disappointing start to the 2015-2016 season and have won only one of their six games so far in all competitions, although three have ended in a draw.

The Iron have had stalemates in both of their past two outings.

Scunthorpe have scored in four of their six matches this season and Paddy Madden has netted in three of them (a total of four goals)

They have been eliminated in the first round of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy in two of the past three seasons whilst Barnsley have won only ONE match excluding a penalty shootout in the five seasons they have competed in the competition.

STAT! – Barnsley won their most recent game on this date three years ago but had lost each of the previous seven.

JOINT STAT! – One of those seven defeats was a 3-0 reverse at Scunthorpe back in 1973. The two sides met in a Fourth Division encounter on the 1st of September 42 years ago.

It was only the second league game of the season and the Iron bounced back from an opening day 1-0 defeat at Lincoln, whilst The Reds had lost by the same scoreline at home to Colchester.

It proved to be a fairly uninspiring season for both clubs with Barnsley winning just one of their opening 12 games and finishing 13th whilst Scunthorpe won just two of their first nine and finished 18th.
