Shackell Takes Over As Skipper

Barnsley boss Mark Robins has stamped his mark on the squad for the 2010-2011 season by replacing Stephen Foster as captain with new signing Jason Shackell.

Foster, who has captained The Reds since 2008 following the departure of Brian Howard has been removed from captaincy duties altogether after the club confirmed Bobby Hassell will remain as vice-captain as he was last season.

Foster struggled for form in 2009-2010 and it is believed reliving of these duties will help the 29 year old concentrate on his game. It is the first time a Barnsley captain has been actively replaced (i.e. replaced whilst remaining at the club) since ex boss Simon Davey replaced Paul Reid with Howard in the opening month of the 2007-2008 season.
