Shocker at Oakwell

Last updated : 22 February 2006 By Rob Miles (barnsley Boy)

In shocking news this week Barnsley's midfield linchpin Jacob Burns has gone on trial with Polish Champions Wisla Kraków.

Burns who has in my opinion being the Reds most consistent player this season and a hot runner for Player of the Year has major aspirations of going to this summer's World Cup after his country Australia qualified for the first time since 1974.

Andy Ritchie told www.barnsleyfc.co.uk:

"Jacob has gone to Poland on trial this week with a view to earning something.

"There could even be the possibility of him going to Kraków this season because Jacob has aspirations of getting back into the Australian squad for the World Cup. That may be a possibility but we will have to wait and see what happens when he comes back"

Barnsley Boy says: Would be a major loss to the team especially at this crucial stage. Had one bad game at Doncaster 2 weeks ago but apart from that has been outstanding. Can understand his logic though as he will have a far better chance of going to the World Cup if he’s playing for a renowned team

Meanwhile young goal-keeper Scott Flinders played the second half of The Football League U21's 1-0 victory over the Serie B U21's. Both he and Derby goal-keeper Lee Camp kept clean sheet with Southampton's Dextor Blackstock grabbing the only goal in the second half.
