Simon The Jewel In Barnsley's Crown

Just 24 hours after Derby Chairman Adam Pearson rubbished reports Rams boss Paul Jewell could be sacked if his team lose at Oakwell on Saturday, Reds chairman Patrick Cryne has been forced to defender Jewell's fellow under-pressure boss Simon Davey amid reports the Welshman only had three games to save his job.

Yesterday's Daily Mirror claimed Davey had just the games with Derby, Blackpool and Cardiff to save his job after leading Barnsley to their worst start to a season for 22 years. Cryne though dismissed this by saying:

"That is complete nonsense. It is Simon's job and remains so.

Meanwhile a decent sized crowd saw German goalkeeper Heinz Muller make his long awaited comeback from a cruciate knee ligament injury for The Reserves last night.

Muller played 83 minutes of the 3-3 draw with Rotherham and Davey told www.barnsleyfc.co.uk:

"Heinz got through 83 minutes and it looked as though he had never been away. He is a little stiff today because he has not done so much kicking but it was a big thing for him to get through a game. He was coming for crosses and his distribution was excellent. If anything his kicking was better than ever.

"Mentally it was a massive hurdle for him to over come. I am not saying that he is ready for the first team yet and we will work with Heinz until he thinks he is ready to come back and play".

Jamil Adam (2) and Rob Atkinson got the goals for The Reds and the side was:

Muller, Grundy, Branson, Atkinson, Lazarus, Fearnehough, Taylor, Butterfield, Mostto, Adam, Mellor. Subs: Letheren, Warburton, Crapper, Scargill, Bennett.

And finally former Reds loan hero Michael Chopra has checked into Tony Adams's Sporting Chance clinic to sort out "personal problems" Chopra became a cult hero at Oakwell as he scored 17 goals in 42 games in a season long loan from Newcastle United in 2004-2005.

Chopra, now at Sunderland has been backed by his current boss Roy Keane who said:

"We are helping Michael as he deals with some personal issues and he has the full support of everyone at the club.

"We would ask that his privacy, and that of his family, is respected at this time and the club will not be commenting further on this matter."
