Interesting Stats:

QPR have won each of the last five meetings, with Barnsley failing to even score in any of the last four.

The Reds have won just one of the last four Oakwell encounters. QPR have emerged victorious from this part of South Yorkshire on only five occasions, but that includes each of the last two trips.

Victory for Rangers would give them their third successive league double over Barnsley.

QPR are definitely heading into the end of season play-offs as they look to make an immediate return to the Premier League but will be looking for the three points this weekend to ensure they finish fourth and have home advantage for the second leg of the play-off semi-finals.

Rangers, in fact, need just a point to ensure this but defeat would open the door to Wigan to overtake them.

Harry Redknapp’s side were most people’s favourites to win the league this season or at least secure automatic promotion but poor away form has put paid to that.

The R’s have lost just twice at Loftus Road this season but have suffered ten defeats on the road, the joint most amongst the division’s top 14 sides.

They have won just seven on the road, the lowest in the top six and have scored just 19 times- in the Championship only Charlton, Blackpool, Doncaster, Barnsley and Yeovil have netted less away goals.

Overall Rangers have managed 57 goals so far this season, the lowest amount in the top six, but they have seen only 42 go into their own net- only Burnley have conceded less.

Rangers have won just two of their last seven matches and have lost each of their last three away games.

Barnsley have not scored for five successive home games but QPR are without a clean sheet in seven matches.

Charlie Austin has scored in 15 of his 33 appearances for Rangers this season and has scored in each of his last four appearances against Barnsley (five goals)

With just one game remaining the most victories Barnsley can accumulate in 2013-2014 is 10, providing they beat QPR.

This would be their lowest total since the Premier League relegation campaign of 1997/1998 when they also gained 10 wins.

However they played only 38 games that season, the last time they gained so little wins from a 46 game campaign was 1971/1972 when they managed just nine like they have now.

Barnsley can now only get a total of 42 points so will definitely finish with their lowest Football League points tally since 1974-1975 when they gained 41. They actually finished 15th that season in the Fourth Division.

This season Barnsley’s points to games ratio will be less than one point per game for the first time since the Premier League season in 1997-1998 when they accumulated 35 points from 38 games. The last time it happened in a 46 game season was back in 1975-1976 when they managed to get 44- as just mentioned they can only reach 42 this season.

Should they lose tomorrow they will finish on a sub 40 points total for the first time (excluding the Premier League season when they played only 38 matches) since 1971/1972

I suppose one bright note is the most league defeats they can suffer now is 25, which would be one less than the total they suffered in their first season after promotion in 2006-2007.

The Reds conceded 86 goals that year, the most in the Football League. They have let in 74 so far this campaign so will comfortably miss that tally but are probably likely to go past the 74 they shipped in 2011/2012.

So far Barnsley themselves have scored 42 goals. If they do not get at least another three in their final game it will be their lowest Football League goals tally since 1981/1982. They also scored 42 times that season yet only played 42 games, 1971/1972 was the last time they scored less than at least 45 goals in a 46 game season.

As mentioned before this is one of Barnsley’s worst seasons at Oakwell for many a year.

They have five home wins this season so the most they can get is six, which again would be the lowest since that horrific 1971/1972 campaign when they also managed six. Should they lose or draw with QPR it will be their lowest total since 1952/1953 when they managed four. This though again was a 42 game season, and they have NEVER before won less than six home games in a 46 game campaign.

The Reds have managed just 20 goals at Oakwell this season. Unless they grab two against Rangers tomorrow this will be their lowest EVER home totally. The previous lowest was 22 back in 1989-1990.

They have conceded 33 home goals so far; it is only the third time in nine years that they have conceded 30+ goals at home.

Barnsley’s current goal difference is –32, the same as they finished with back in 2006-2007. If they lose tomorrow they will finish with their worst goal difference since the 1997-1998 Premier League campaign when they ended with –45. If you take the top flight away it would be their worst Football League goal difference since 1964-1965 when they suffered a 36-goal deficit whilst finishing bottom of the Third Division.

Speaking of finishing bottom, if Yeovil win tomorrow and Barnsley lose, The Reds will finish bottom of a league for the first time since that Third Division campaign 49 years ago.

No matter what, after this game has finished Barnsley Football Club will have completed their 73rd season in English football’s second tier and will be preparing to start a 23rd season in the third division.

On more current form, The Reds equalled an unwanted club record of FIVE home games without scoring. The only other time this happened was 55 years ago. They also went five without a goal in February-April 1959, a season where they were relegated, finishing bottom of this league. They have never before gone six home games without scoring a goal.

They have lost three of their last four home matches with a 1-0 scoreline. It is the same scoreline by which QPR have won on each of their last two visits to Oakwell.

Defeat tomorrow would be Barnsley’s 10th home game of the season, the same as they suffered in 2011/2012 and 2006-2007.
