Interesting Stats

This will only be the ninth ever meeting between the two sides, Barnsley have won just two of the previous eight and have lost each of the last four.

The Reds have NEVER beaten Wigan in a league match with their two successes coming in the FA Cup and League Cup.

They have won just the once at Wigan, a 1-0 victory at Springfield Park in a League Cup tie back in 1990.

The Latics are chasing a second league double over Barnsley. They won both encounters in their Division Two title-winning season of 2002-2003 and they won 4-0 at Oakwell back on the opening day of this season.

When Wigan smashed four past the Reds on a red hot August afternoon it looked like the FA Cup holders were set for an immediate return to the Premier League under Owen Coyle. Six months on, Coyle is gone and new gaffer Uwe Rosler is trying to take the Latics into the play-off places.

When the former Manchester City striker and Brentford boss took over Wigan were 16th in the Championship but six wins from 11 games in charge has lifted them to 9th, seven points off six spot.

Wigan have been very good defensively this season and have conceded just 28 goals. Only QPR (21) and Brighton, Burnley (25) have conceded less.

Wigan have won four of their last six matches in all competitions with Saturday’s 2-1 win at Cardiff sending them into the Quarter-Finals of the FA Cup.

They have lost just two of their past 15 matches, both of them away.

Wigan have lost just twice at the DW Stadium this season and have won seven of the 14 matches played there, including the last three.

36% of Wigan’s goals in 2013-2014 have been scored in the final 15 minutes, a league-high. Barnsley on the other hand have scored just twice in the final 15 minutes this season, a joint-league low with Charlton.
