Interesting Stats

Barnsley return to the scene of arguably two of their greatest days this weekend. The Reds triumphed 3-1 at Huddersfield in a League One Play-Off Semi-Final in 2006 and then secured a 2-2 draw there back in May, which saw Barnsley escape relegation back to the same division by a single point.

The Reds have won two of their last seven trips to what is now known as the John Smiths’ Stadium, but have lost just three of the last nine.

They have also lost just three of the last nine home or away and could secure their first double of the season with victory in West Yorkshire.

Despite The Reds recent good form against the Terriers, they do have a poor overall record at Huddersfield, winning just six of 31 visits.

Barnsley seem to do better at Huddersfield however than they do against them at Oakwell. August’s victory was their first against the Terriers on home soil for eight years (a total of five meetings ago)

Huddersfield were the first team to lose to Barnsley this season, back at the end of August and The Reds have won just four of the 26 league games they have played since.

The next goal for Huddersfield will be their 50th at home against Barnsley.

The last time these two sides met at the John Smiths’ Stadium, Jack Hunt was in the Huddersfield side but is now set to line up against them for Barnsley.

Huddersfield had enjoyed a good first half of the season under former Barnsley boss Mark Robins and they sat 11th in the Championship after a 5-1 win over Yeovil in the final game of 2013, residing just four points off the top six.

However the Terriers have lost six of their nine league matches in 2014 to drop to 14th, 10 points adrift of sixth placed Reading.

Huddersfield are the only side in the top 15 with a minus goal difference and the 44 goals they have conceded is the most in the top 16.

Robins side are also proving vulnerable at home and have lost three of their last four home games in all competitions including a 2-0 reverse to Barnsley’s South Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Wednesday last weekend.

They have managed to score 24 goals at home in the league this season, only six teams have managed more, five of which currently reside in the top six.

They have though kept just one clean sheet in their last eight matches, conceding a total of 16 goals in that time at an average of exactly two per game.
