The hamstring curse that has already accounted for Peter Ramage and Martin Cranie has also afflicted Marcus Pedersen who limped out of last weekend’s fantastic 4-1 win at Yeovil. He has been assessed today with manager Danny Wilson giving the Norwegian as long as possible to prove his fitness.

If he does not make it, Reuben Noble-Lazarus could again step in as Barnsley go chasing a third win in a row for the first time in 13 months.

Interesting Stats

Barnsley just edge the head the head standings (14 wins to 13) but Brighton have netted three goals more.

Victory for Barnsley would give them their first league double of the season. After this the only other opportunity of securing one is at Middlesbrough on the season’s penultimate weekend.

They have a good home record against the Seagulls too, winning 10 of the 17 meetings at Oakwell. Brighton have returned to the South Coast victorious on just four occasions, the last of which was four meetings ago, back in August 1991.

The Reds are chasing a third successive win against Brighton for the first time ever and are hunting their first league double over them since 1985/1986.

Brighton look well placed to secure a play-off spot for the second successive season…. Until they embarked on their joint worst run of the campaign.

The Seagulls have lost three and drawn one of their last four matches, and they failed to score in each of those three reverses.

Indeed Brighton have managed just 42 league goals this season, only six of the bottom seven sides have scored less in the whole division including Barnsley who have 38.

However whilst they have struggled to find the net themselves they have also been very solid at the other end of the pitch. Oscar Garcia’s side have conceded just 36 times. Only Burnley and QPR who lie in second and third, have conceded less (33)

The Seagulls have travelled well this season. They have won seven of their 19 away games in 2013-2014; only teams currently in the top six plus Birmingham have won more on their travels.

They have only conceded 16 goals away from home this season, the best record in the Championship, although they have only managed to score 17. Only five sides have scored less away goals.

If Brighton keep clean sheets, they normally win. Each of their last eight victories have been achieved by keeping the back door shut.
