Interesting Stats

Barnsley are facing Bournemouth at Oakwell three days short of exactly eight years since they last met there.

This will be the first Oakwell meeting at this level of English football since 1990 and victory will give them their first double over The Reds since that season- 1989-90.

Out of the 41 meetings overall, this will only be the eighth in the second tier.

The Cherries have managed to win just three of their 21 trips to this part of South Yorkshire, but two of those have come in the last five.

Indeed, Barnsley have won just one of the last five Oakwell meetings.

Four of the last seven meetings home or away have ended in draws.

Barnsley have failed to score in three of the last four meetings.

Bournemouth’s last minute 1-0 defeat to Barnsley’s relegation rivals Charlton on Tuesday night was the first time the Cherries had conceded a goal in five games and they have conceded just twice in their last seven. Remarkably prior to this they had kept just one clean sheet in 26 games!

They have conceded 52 goals this season which is the most in the top half and have lost 14 times, again the highest amongst the top 12 sides.

Eddie Howe’s side have conceded 33 times on their travels this season, only Blackpool, Millwall and Yeovil have conceded more. Barnsley- with the Football League’s worst away record- have only conceded 32.

That defeat at the Valley was only their third reverse in their last 11 league matches.

They have won two and lost two of their last four away games.

As long as Bournemouth finish 22nd or higher in May it will be their highest league finish for 24 years. If they could finish where they are now in 12th, it would be their best in a quarter of a century.
