Team News

Chris O’Grady could return for Danny Wilson’s first game back in charge after returning to full training this week. The Reds’ top scorer has missed the last five matches with a calf problem, and Barnsley have won just one of those.

Apart from that Wilson has a full strength side for his first match in charge since a 2-0 defeat to Manchester United on the final day of the 1997-1998 Premier League season.

Interesting Stats

Victory for Barnsley would level the head to head meetings up at 20 wins apiece from 56 games.

The last time these two sides met, Barnsley secured only their second league win in 16 matches. It was the start of a run of five wins in six league matches that lifted The Reds from rock bottom of the Championship, four points adrift of safety to 20th, two points above the relegation zone.

Luciano Becchio has netted three of Leeds last six goals against Barnsley but is now at Norwich City.

Tomorrow’s encounter will be the third time the two sides have met since the start of 2012 and for each game Barnsley will have had a different manager in charge (Keith Hill 1-0 defeat 6/10/12, David Flitcroft 2-0 win 12/1/13)

There have only been two draws in the last 12 meetings, the home side has won eight times and the away side just twice during that time.

This game usually guarantees goals. Although there were only three scored in the two meetings last season, prior to this 30 were netted from six clashes.

Leeds have won four of their last six Championship matches and have netted at least three goals in three of those games.

They have won six times at Elland Road this season. Only Leicester and QPR have won more home games.

The West Yorkshire outfit have also netted 19 league goals in front of their own supporters, a record only bettered by Derby (20)

Leeds are unbeaten in six matches at home, five of which they have won. Burnley on the 21st September are the last team to leave with all three points.

They have however lost seven league games this season, only Huddersfield (8) have lost more amongst the top half sides.

Leeds have won four of their last six matches directly before Christmas.

Brian McDermott has won three of his four matches against Barnsley as a manager, all of them with Reading.

Record: WWLW

As Reading manager: Won 3-0 25/9/10, Won 1-0 19/3/11, Lost 2-1 20/8/11, Won 4-0 17/3/12.

Only one Barnsley manager has won his first game in charge out of the last four to sit in the hot-seat, and that was caretaker Micky Mellon for the 2-1 victory at Brighton last month. Before then, David Flitcroft lost at Peterborough, Keith Hill drew at Nottingham Forest and Mark Robins lost at Watford. Remarkably Wilson is the fifth successive Barnsley manager, caretaker or permanent to be away from home for his first game in charge. Simon Davey was the last manager to start at home, and he led the side to a 1-0 win over Ipswich on the 25th November 2006. Davey is the only Reds manager out of the last seven to start his reign at Oakwell.

Barnsley have won just two of their last 21 matches, and eight of the last 33.

The Reds have failed to score in four of their last six matches.

Barnsley are yet to win a game this season if they are not winning at half time.

Barnsley’s goal difference of –19 is the worst in the Championship. Only Crewe with –25 have a worse GD in the Football League.

The Reds have the worst away record in the entire Football League having picked up just four points on their travels. Their eight away defeats is the highest in the Championship and joint highest in the Football League.

Barnsley have won three of their last five matches directly before Christmas.

Danny Wilson has won just one of his last nine matches as Barnsley manager, with seven defeats. He has though lost just three of his last 14 Reds games at this level. The now 53 year old who was a sprightly 37 the last time he managed Barnsley in English football’s second tier lost his last match at this level 5-1. This was at Oxford, this game eight days after securing Barnsley’s promotion to the Premier League.

He did however win his first game in charge of Barnsley last time around, defeating Derby 2-1 on the 13th August 1994.
