STEADy win helps Reds

They may have broken Barnsley hearts at Wembley in 2000 and taken six points off The Reds this season, but Ipswich Town did them a favour yesterday by beating hated rivals Norwich City 3-2 at Portman Road.

If Norwich had won they would have sent The Reds into the bottom three, two points off safety but now if Barnsley can beat bogey side Coventry tomorrow they will be on the brink of safety.

Norwich
took the lead through David Mooney but Ipswich roared back with goals from Alan Quinn, Giovanni Dos Santos and Jon Stead, with Sammy Clingan notching an injury time penalty for the Canaries. This result ensures Barnsley are fourth bottom, one point above Norwich.

Meanwhile Reds boss Simon Davey has said he is not safe from the sack but has not had any pressure from owner Patrick Cryne. Davey faced calls for his head over the Easter weekend and if his side do not beat Coventry, Wolves and Plymouth in their final three games they could be returning to League One after three years.

Davey told BBC Radio Sheffield:

"I've had no internal pressure whatsoever, it's not changed in the past week.

"I have a fantastic relationship with Patrick and it always will be and if the inevitable does come then we'll shake hands."

"As a manager you're always fearful of you're job, you always know you're a few games from the sack."
