Barnsley full-back John Stones has capped an amazing six months by making his England U19 debut this evening, and played the full 90 minutes in a 2-1 defeat to Germany in Hamburg.

The 18 year old's astonishing rise to prominence started in March when he made his first team debut, as a 17 year old, coming off the bench in a 4-0 home defeat to Reading.

He made one more substitute appearance in 2011-12 in the goalless final day draw with Brighton.

Stones was named the club's Academy Player of the Year prior to that match and was handed his full debut in the Capital One Cup First Round victory at Rochdale, scoring the Reds first goal of the season.

Since then the Barnsley born youngster has started another three games and come off the bench in one. His fine start to the campaign saw him rewarded with a place in the England U19 squad and coach Noel Blake trusted him by playing him for the entire match tonight.
