Team News

Danny Wilson is set to stick with an unchanged team following back to back home wins that have propelled the club from two points off relegation to four points from the play-offs but he is boosted by the availability of Mason Holgate who has served a three match suspension.

Sam Winnall is almost back to full fitness following two cameos from the bench but Kane Hemmings is set to keep his place in the side after netting the winner against Oldham.

Interesting Stats:

Both sides have won 16 of the 49 meetings following Swindon’s 3-0 win at Oakwell back in September, but Swindon just edge it on the goal count 56 to 54.

The first ever meetings between these two sides took place in the Semi-Finals of the FA Cup in 1912. Barnsley won a replay 1-0 after a 0-0 draw in the first game and went on to win the cup that year for the one and only time in their history.

Barnsley have lost just two of their last eight games with the Robins, and have lost only two of the last seven at Swindon.

In each of the last three meetings only one side have scored, with Swindon’s 3-0 win in September equalling Barnsley’s 3-0 win at Swindon 10 years ago.

Swindon are bang on course to finally regain their second tier status after a 15-year hiatus.

The Robins are one of four teams pulling away from the rest in League One and not only are they 16 points clear of seventh place but they are seven above their nearest team, Preston in fourth and 15 above fifth place Chesterfield.

A run of nine wins in 13 matches has also pushed them right into the automatic promotion race; they will only be denied top spot by victory tomorrow because Bristol City and MK Dons are facing each other.

Along with those wins, The Robins have lost just two of their last 12 matches, although one of those was last time out, against another South Yorkshire team in Sheffield United.

That 2-0 defeat was only the third time they have failed to score in a league match this season, two of those have come against South Yorkshire outfits (United and Doncaster)

Swindon have lost just twice at the County Ground this season, (to Rochdale in October and Doncaster in December) they have won eight home games this season including five of the last six, keeping four clean sheets in that time.

That is in complete contrast to Barnsley’s current away form, they have lost each of their last five on the road, failing to even score in any of the last three.

Altogether this season Swindon have won 16 of their 27 matches, only the leaders Bristol City (17) have won more.

They have netted 52 times, only the MK Dons (59) have scored more.

Andy Williams has scored in five of his last six games for Swindon, netting seven times in that spell. In total he has 19 goals in 32 appearances this season and following Eoin Doyle’s switch to Cardiff, is League One’s current top scorer.
