BARNSLEY are without left back Paul Gibbs for the clash with Luton Town.

The 30-year-old has a groin strain and is out for a few weeks. Youngster Robbie Williams is likely to be promoted to the first team after impressing in the reserves recently.

Mike Sheron returns to the squad while skipper Chris Morgan has shaken off a slight knee problem.

Dean Gorre has been back training since Wednesday, but he is not likely to start. He was detained in Holland following a bereavement after recovering from an illness.

Meanwhile, caretaker boss Glyn Hodges has been working today to overturn the Football League's embargo on transfer activity at Oakwell.

Hodges was was hoping to bring a loan signing in but the Football League, who have yet to sanction Peter Doyle's takeover, are adamant that Barnsley debts should not be increased.

"We're not buying people, we're not forking out transfer fees, we're hoping to get loans," Hodges stressed. "We'll get one or two out and maybe two or three in and that will still reduce the wage bill. We're losing a lot of money per month, we've got an opportunity to cut that."

Mike Flynn has already left the club for Blackpool for a three month loan period.

Hodges added: "There are a couple of positions that need strengthening, we've only got one left footer at the club, Paul Gibbs, apart from young Robbie Williams, who after Wednesday's reserve match is back in my thinking.

"We're struggling for goals at the moment, we've got Kevin Betsy and Bruce Dyer, Rory Fallon and Mike Sheron but if we could get a goal scorer perhaps that would take the pressure off the back four."

Adrian Littlejohn, who scored twice in the reserves on Wednesday won't be involved.
"I've explained the situation we're in to Adrian Littlejohn and I hope he's patient. "The problem we've got is that he can use Barnsley as a shop window. There were four or five scouts at the reserves' match and it's his prerogative to look at any concrete offers."
