The Don Confirms Williamson Interest

Barnsley FC general manager Don Rowing has confirmed that Sheffield United midfielder Lee Williamson is on the club's radar.

As reported on TykesMAD earlier this week, the out-of-contract Blades man is being tracked by the Reds and is currently mulling over an extension at Bramall Lane.

With the Blades failing to achieve promotion last season, Williamson may be keen on a move back into the Championship, where he has played for Watford and Sheff United.

Hill recently revealed he had drawn up a list of about 30 potential targets for summer recruiting, a search which has taken him as far as Portugal.

But Rowing told the Star:

“We need four or five new players and he’s [Williamson] one of a number of players who have been identified.

“He probably fits the mould of player that Keith [Hill] is looking for, but of course as with any player, if we did try and sign him he’d have to come within our budget. We’ve not made a bid for the player at this stage, but we’ll have to see what happens.

“He’s played for Sheffield United, but I don’t think that would cause any problems with our supporters. If he’s a good player, then he’s a good player.”
