Three more northern sides have today learnt they will be playing Championship football next season.

Middlesbrough were odds on to join West Brom in the CCC next season and this was confirmed as they lost 2-1 to West Ham. Newcastle also plunged into the second tier for the first time in 16 years after a 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa.

Hull City also lost and if the Magpies had earnt a point at Villa Park they would have been safe at the expense of the Tigers.

Scunthorpe United were also promoted via the League One playoffs after a 3-2 win over Millwall. Matt Sparrow scored twice either side of Gary Alexander's brace and ex-York City winger Martyn Woolford scored a winner five minutes from time.

So the full Championship line up will be confirmed tomorrow after the playoff final between Burnley and Sheffield United...a game I know who ALL Barnsley will be cheering on in.
