Transfer Update

New Barnsley boss Simon Davey is set to secure his third signing of the transfer window with the loan capture of young Manchester United left back Adam Eckersley on loan for the rest of the season.

Eckersley, 21, is highly rated by the Old Trafford management team and thanks to Patrick Cryne's relationship with Sir Alex Ferguson the deal has been struck.

Eckersley will officially sign on Monday and be available to (hopefully) replace Paul Heckingbottom for the home game with Preston North End on Saturday.

Eckersley joins Grant McCann and David Lucas as Barnsley's new recruits.

A second bid for Bury's Dwayne Mattis has been rejected however. The Reds initial bid of £25,000 for the former Huddersfield midfielder was immediately rejected and it has now been revealed that a higher bid has already be snubbed as Bury consider offering Mattis a new deal.

A Bury spokesman reportedly told the Manchester Evening News:

"We've turned down a second offer for Dwayne. We've offered him a new deal and at the moment he is thinking it over and says he will let us know about his future within a fortnight."
