Transfer Window Part One

Last updated : 01 January 2007 By Rob Miles (barnsley Boy)
The transfer window has been open only a matter of hours but new Barnsley boss Simon Davey has wasted little time in getting down to business.

The club have confirmed a bid of £200,000 (yes thats £200,000) has been made for Rotherham United midfielder Lee Williamson.

Williamson,24, has been excellent in helping The Millers turn thier season around after starting with a 10 point deduction.

Williamson was a rumored Barnsley target in the summer and now Davey with the backing of chairman Gordon Shepherd has made his move.

Davey told www.barnsleyfc.co.uk:

"Lee is a very, very good player and someone we have been tracking for the last four or five weeks.

"He is a ball winner and can also create goals going forward. He is an athletic player and would be an excellent addition to our squad. We have been watching him closely but have had to wait until the January window to make our move.

"Hopefully Rotherham United will accept our offer and the player will accept the challenge of joining us".

Williamson was one of THREE players shown a red card when Barnsley and Rotherham drew 1-1 at Oakwell last season.

He has made 61 appearances for Rotherham (59 of those starts) and scored 10 goals since signing from Northampton in June 2005
