Trio Arrive

Barnsley have today announced three new arrivals through the Oakwell door ahead of the delayed 2020-2021 season with the one new member of the playing staff not really new at all!

As expected full-back Kilian Ludewig returns to Oakwell, on a season long loan from Red Bull Salzburg.

The 20 year old originally arrived at Oakwell as a teenager in the January transfer window, going on to make 18 appearances and impress as the Reds staged their remarkable escape from relegation in the final two games of the season.

He memorably assisted the opening goal against Blackburn in June when he crossed for Conor Chaplin to head in within seconds of both players entering the pitch.

Barnsley kept eight clean sheets with Ludewig in the defence and although there was talk of him returning on a permanent deal it is believed his parent club – the reigning Austrian Bundesliga champions- see him in their long term plans and therefore were just happy to loan him back out to England.

Meanwhile Struber has added to his coaching staff with the arrivals of Wolfgang Luisser and Tonda Eckert. Luisser,40, is Austrian like his new head coach and has had a number of coaching roles in his homeland at Ludewig’s club Red Bull Salzburg, SV Grodig and SCR Altach. He also had a brief coaching spell in Germany with FC Erzegirge and three years involved with the Austrian international side

Eckert, 27, is German and comes with a glowing reputation after coaching the U17s at 30 time German Champions and three time European champions Bayern Munich. He has also enjoyed coaching spells in the youth sides of FC Koln, RB Salzburg and RB Leipzig.

Both coaches have been appointed as replacements for Matt Rose and Max Senft.
