Vale Stop For Richards

Marc Richards has finally moved to League One Port Vale on a free transfer, 4 months after the move was originally discussed.

Richards was due to move to Vale Park with Leon Constantine coming the other way but the deal fell through after Constantine turned down the move believing The Reds were set for relegation.

Richards though has been released by Simon Davey this week and therefore was clear to join Martin Foyle's side.

Richards was delighted with the move and he told Port Vale's Official Website:

"It almost happened in January and when I first knew of the interest I wanted to get down here and meet Martin (Foyle) and speak to the people. I was disappointed when the move didn't come off.

"I was out of favour at Barnsley and I wasn't playing as much football as I wanted to and coming to Port Vale would have given me the chance to start playing games again and start scoring goals again.

"I had a call from Martin Foyle just before I signed for Barnsley to see what I was doing. Obviously I was just about to sign for Barnsley so nothing happened then, but I am delighted to be here now".

Richards made 81 appearances for Barnsley scoring 18 goals but only managed 3 in the Championship.

Meanwhile rumours are circulating that The Reds have been in talks with the agent of Manchester City's Trevor Sinclair!

Sinclair will be released this summer when his contract runs out and the rumor mill is linking him to Oakwell....
