New Barnsley loan signing Steven Watt has stated he is ready to establish The Reds in the playoffs.

Watt has signed a month loan deal from Premiership champions Chelsea with a view to extending it.

He spoke to the Official Website moments after signing:

"It has been a bit of as tense week personally because I first found out that Barnsley were interested last Saturday and then picked up a bit of a groin tweak playing for Chelsea's reserves. I had to wait a day or two to get the all clear from than and it was all waiting on a scan on Monday afternoon.

"When the ultrasound came back all clear it was just a case of getting up to Barnsley and getting things signed.

"After coming up through the ranks at Stamford Bridge it was a dream come true to make me debut in front of my home fans against Scunthorpe in the FA Cup. I signed as a youngster and had worked for years towards that moment but I was lucky again that the manager put me into the side on the final day against Newcastle.

"I would describe myself as a solid defender who is strong in the tackle and good in the air. I like to play from the back and I have been brought up to go about the game in the right way but if I have to mix things up then that will not be a problem. Defending always comes first.

"I want to come here for the next month and do well for Barnsley Football Club. I am a Barnsley player now as far as I am concerned and I want to do well. I am at this club now and I want to push Barnsley further up the league table.

"I cannot wait to get out there and get experience playing games. That is what it is all about and I have to come here and produce if I am going to move forward".
