Dutch giants Feyenoord and local rivals Sheffield Wednesday will converge on Oakwell this July as the Reds prepare for the 2011-2012 season.
Feyenoord, who are one of the biggest clubs in Holland have won 14 Dutch championships, 11 Dutch cups and two Dutch SuperCups to go along with the UEFA cup in 1974 and 2002, and the big one- the European Cup in 1970 when they defeated Scottish side Celtic 2-1 in the San Siro.
The Dutch giants, currently having a poor season in the Eredivise and sitting in 10th position, are without a national championship since 1999 but are still considered one of the powerhouses of Dutch football and hold the distinct honour (along with FC Utrecht and Roda JC) of never being relegated from Holland’s top flight.
They visit Oakwell on Saturday 23rd July with a 3pm kick-off and will be followed on Tuesday 26th July with local rivals Sheffield Wednesday (7.30pm ko).
The Owls who have had a disappointing first season back in League One after relegation last May can finish no higher than 10th. They come to Oakwell for a pre-season friendly for the second year in succession. Barnsley won 2-0 last July courtesy of goals from Martin Devaney and Goran Lovre.
