Will The Robins or Hornets Fly At Oakwell?

Rotherham United manager Mark Robins and ex Watford boss Aidy Boothroyd are the early favourites with the bookies to take over from the departed Simon Davey at Oakwell.

Boothroyd is the bookies outright favourite with odds of 2-1 with Robins at 4-1, but the Millers boss is seen as the strongest candidate after BBC Radio Sheffield today reported that the club has told them they are looking for a young, talented manager currently IN work.

39 year old Robins who hit 106 goals in a glittering player career which included a spell at Manchester United, certainly fits that bill and has worked wonders at penniless Rotherham.

Last season the Millers started the season with a 17 point deduction in League Two, but Robins did brilliantly to lead them to 14th place with 58 points. Without the deduction they would have had 75 points- the same as Gillingham who won promotion via the play-offs. The Millers have also made a great start to the 2009-2010 season and sit 2nd with 12 points out of a possible 15.

Boothroyd famously led rank outsiders Watford to the Premier League in 2006. At the end of the 2004-2005 season, the Hornets had finished 18th in the Championship- two points off relegation, but Boothroyd, at 34, led the club up the following year after beating Leeds United in the Play-Off Final. Unfortunately their Premier League adventure ended after one season, and he left Vicarage Road in November 2008 with the club 21st in the Championship.

The other favourites with the bookies are Paul Jewell (6-1) and Tony Adams (10-1). The club though have stated Adams is not in the running

Other candidates include Steve Cotterill, Brian Kidd and ex boss Danny Wilson but only Wilson is currently in work and is not classed as a young manager anymore like he was when he led The Reds to the Premier League in 1997.

Early Front Runner: Mark Robins
