Barnsley are now close to double figures for summer signings after the loan arrival of Joe Williams became the ninth new player through the Oakwell doors since the 2016-2017 campaign ended.

20 year old Williams has joined on a season long loan from Premier League outfit Everton and it is believed the Toffees chose the Reds to send their highly rated youngster to after forging good relationships in the past couple of years with John Stones and Mason Holgate moving to Goodison Park whilst last year Barnsley took Gethin Jones on loan.

Williams is yet to make a senior appearance for Ronald Koeman but did make the bench on four occasions in the Premier League last season and appeared for the Under 23 side in the Checkatrade Trophy defeat at Cheltenham in October.

Williams who has also featured for the England Under 20 team is classed as a tough tackling defensive midfielder so therefore could be seen as a replacement for Josh Scowen.
