Young Reds Earn Their Spurs

Barnsley’s Academy side produced a wonderful performance under the Oakwell lights last night to defeat Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Youth Cup. The result brought back memories of 12 years ago when the senior side defeated their White Hart Lane counterparts by the same scoreline in the FA Cup.

The Young Reds surged into a 2-0 half time lead through strikes from Danny Rose and Jordan Clark, and then saw Bradley Riley make it three before a Harry Kane penalty gave Spurs some consolation.

Barnsley were in front after just three minutes from a real goal of the season contender from young sensation Rose. A cross from Riley was superbly fired past Spurs keeper Jordan Archer via an overhead kick from Rose. The crucial second goal arrived right on the stroke of half time when Rueben Noble-Lazarus show great industry and skill to get to the by-line and pull the ball back for Clark to fire home.

A great night turned into an excellent one on 54 minutes when Clark’s free kick was flicked into the net by Riley. Not even a penalty from Kane, awarded when Reds keeper Lukas Lidakevicius brought down Jack Bartram could ruin the Reds night.

Teams:

BARNSLEY: Lidakevicius, Stones, Carlisle, Scott (Kilburn 59), Gorman, Turner, Riley, Yun (Taylor 77), Rose (McLeod 88), Noble-Lazarus, Clark.
