Barnsley 1-2 Sheffield United: Post Match Reaction

"I am disappointed obviously with the result but I thought my lads were magnificent throughout the 90 minutes. We battled away and it was always going to be like that against a physical side like Sheffield United. We stood up to that but there were some controversial decisions.

"How can a linesman give a penalty when he was stood behind me and the referee was 15 yards away. You cannot even see the lines of the area from there. Yes - was upset by that and rightly so.

"It seems to be happening to us on a consistent basis here and they did not see Darren Moore getting pulled down in the box. It is not even the referee giving those decisions against us now - it is the linesman.

"The referee told me that there was a nice warm seat in the stand and I should watch the game from there. He did not give me an explanation - he just asked me to watch from the stands. He wasn't having anything at the time. I probably deserved to be sent to the stand for what I said to the linesman. In the heat of a passionate derby I do not think anyone can have a go at me for that. It was the wrong decision.

"It is usually the lineman in the other half that gives decisions like that. The linesman was stood behind me. There was a bit of noise from their bench and he gave the decision. I find that peculiar.

He added: "I have not seen a replay of the sending offs but if they swung out at each other then they deserved to go. I just saw them putting their heads together but I do not want to comment more until I can see it on the video.

"We have been on a good run and I cannot take anything away from my lads today. It was a battle and Sheffield United are a big, strong side and we stood up to that. We were unfortunate not to come away with something.

"Jon Macken missed the game after picking up a hamstring injury on Monday. We did not say anything because we wanted to keep it quiet and not alert Sheffield United as to what we were going to do. He should be back in ten to 14 days.

"There are a lot of wounded players in there and a lot of bitter players as well. We will have to deal with that on Monday and prepare for the game at the weekend. We need to regroup and make sure we are ready for Watford"..
