Barnsley 2-0 Gillingham: Post Match Reaction

“It wasn’t our best performance of the season. Our quality on the ball wasn’t great today but the important thing is knowing how to win ugly and we did that today.”

“We weren’t playing well so when we stood up to their pressure in the second half it was pleasing. We knew they would get numbers into the box and we coped with it well.”

“Ben Pearson technically strikes a great ball, so it was no surprise that it went in,"

"The other goal was typical Marley Watkins. He’s strong, powerful and a great team player, so when he set up Sam Winnall he just does what he does best and put the ball in the net.”

“We’ve got a very young team and with young players consistency is difficult to get because they are learning all the time. If you’re going to be successful you have to cope with playing Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday, Tuesday and deal with it. The lads are learning well.”
