Southampton 5-2 Barnsley: Post Match Reaction

"If we play like that between now and the end of the season then we will have a great chance of staying in this division. I cannot fault a single one of our players and their showed tremendous work rate and commitment out there.

"A refereeing decision has cost us the game when we had done so well to get back into it. We are very disappointed with that decision.

"It was not a free kick out in the wide area in the first place so that is one fault we can find. Then Istvan has said he got a push in his back so that was a second error and it has cost us.

"I have spoken with the referee and as you would expect he told me that he was right in the decisions he made.

"Daniel Nardiello went up to win the ball and ended up on the ground. He felt that their player would been booked and we were amazed when he was sent off. We will be looking at the video and will appeal.

"At 2-2 we were in with a shout and then we had a penalty given against us that was not justified and then a sending off that was not justified so as a dressing room we feel very hard done by this evening.

"When we were down to ten men we were trying to get back into the game and would always leave gaps at the back. I would not look at the scoreline - I would look at the work ethic and commitment showed and we will take that into Tuesday's game with HullCity.

"We feel that we have been badly done by today".

BarnsleyBoy says: Iv talked to a few Southampton fans who say we were outclassed and the radio also backed up this claim so this makes Simon's comments point extremely baffling...once again!
