Southend United 1-3 Barnsley: Post Match Reaction

"It was important for us to win and an important three points. We wanted to win, we came to win and we are delighted to win. It was nervous at the end but I have to give huge credit to my players. They were outstanding.

"We are confident when we go in front and we know that we can hold onto things. Some of them looked a little nervous after Southend scored but they are a good footballing side. I cannot praise my lads highly enough today.

"We came here looking to keep Southend below us. We do not draw games and we came here to win.

"We now have two massive home games coming up".

"Obviously we are really disappointed,"

"After beating Preston everyone - the fans and the players - felt that we could get a result and still be with in a good shout to stay up.

"But we seemed to tense up playing at home again and the pressure got to us.

"We have ended up losing 3-1 to a side that we are capable of beating.

"For the first 15 minutes we started well, but as soon as they scored, you could sense that added pressure.

"To then concede the second goal as we did was a schoolboy error.

"Once we got ourselves a goal, we had a few more efforts, but we needed that second goal to give us a big lift.

"We now need to go to Plymouth and get a similar result to the one we achieved at Preston.

"Hopefully we can play without that fear to get back into it."
