Barnsley 0-1 Crawley.

Barnsley took their dismal form from last season’s Championship campaign into the new League One season as they lost for a fifth consecutive league match.

The Reds have also now failed to win any of their last six home matches, and have not even managed to score in five of them.

Barnsley lost on the opening day of the season for the third time in five years; they have also only managed to score on the first day of a campaign twice in the last six years.

Dale Jennings was sent off on the opening day for the second year in a row. 12 months ago he saw a straight red in the 66th minute, just five minutes after making his debut and yesterday he was given his marching orders in the 62nd.

Incredibly The Reds have now had a man sent off in the first game of the season in each of the past three years (in 2012/2013, the Rochdale League Cup tie was played before the first league game) and have been shown four in the last seven openers.

Crawley are now unbeaten in their last four openers, and they have never lost an opening day match in the Football League.

Izale McLeod netted an opening day goal against Barnsley yesterday, exactly 10 years since doing it for MK Dons.
