Barnsley 0-2 Southend

Last updated : 13 March 2016 By Rob Miles (BarnsleyBoy)

Barnsley’s 100% home record in 2016 ended as their six match Oakwell winning run came to an end.

Barnsley conceded the opening goal in the fourth minute, the earliest they have conceded at Oakwell this season and the earliest since Jason Kennedy’s effort for Bradford in the first minute in October 2014.

Barnsley were behind at half-time for only the third time in 15 matches and the first time in nine at Oakwell.

Jack Payne’s goal ended a run of three successive Oakwell clean sheets for Barnsley.

An opposition keeper was shown a card for the first time since Port Vale’s Jak Alnwick in November 2014. Barnsley also lost that home game.

Southend goalkeeper Daniel Bentley has now been yellow carded in both games against Barnsley this season.

It is Southend’s first league double over Barnsley since the 1979-1980 season when they won both games 2-1.

It is the first time Barnsley have lost a league encounter to Southend since 1995 (W4 D4 since)

Barnsley failed to score for only the second time in 16 games in all competitions and the first time at home in 2016 (8 matches)

In the past two matches when Barnsley have won only one other team around them has also won, however as The Reds lost yesterday only Wigan and Millwall amongst the top 12 also failed to win.

Reds fans will be hoping this does not follow a similar pattern to last season. They won 3-1 at Oldham in March to finally make it into the top six, before only winning one more game that season! In this campaign they won 3-1 at Walsall to finally hit six spot and failed to win the following game….
