Barnsley 2-1 Oldham- Match Report

Sam Winnall scored twice as Barnsley continued their pursuit of the Sky Bet League One play-offs with a 2-1 victory over relegation-threatened Oldham.

Winnall put the hosts ahead midway through nine minutes of first half stoppage time following a nasty injury to Oldham's Brian Wilson.

Curtis Main equalised, but the Latics were undone by a late Winnall penalty.

Oldham started brightly but could have been behind early on when Alfie Mawson headed a Conor Hourihane cross inches wide.

The visitors, who knew that a win would put them five points clear of the relegation zone appealed for a penalty when Main went down in the area.

Barnsley hit the post through the lively Winnall before he headed home from Hourihane's corner.

In the second half, the Latics hit back when Main (68) lashed home Cameron Dummigan's low cross.

Winnall hit the woodwork again as Barnsley piled on the pressure.

Their pressure paid off when Tareiq Holmes-Dennis brought down Adam Hammill and Winnall (83) converted from the spot
