Barnsley 2-4 Fulham

Last updated : 16 October 2016 By Rob Miles (BarnsleyBoy)

This was Barnsley’s fourth league defeat in five outings- prior to these four they had lost only five in 34.

Barnsley have scored 23 goals now this season which is the most outside the automatic promotion places but have conceded 20- only Nottingham Forest (23) have conceded more outside the relegation zone.

At least The Reds ended their first half hoodoo. Prior to yesterday they had gone five games without a goal before half time but netted their fourth and fifth first half goals of the season. It is the first time in 2016-2017 that they have scored more than once in the first half. However they then failed to score a second half goal for only the second time this season.

Barnsley conceded four goals in a league game at Oakwell for the first time since September 2014 when MK Dons scored five in a 5-3 defeat for The Reds.

Barnsley fell behind for the first time in the 46th minute, the fourth goal they have conceded this season in the first five minutes of the second half.

Barnsley lost after opening the scoring for the first time in almost exactly 12months. On the 17th October 2015 they took the lead at Southend but lost 2-1. It is the first time they have lost after opening the scoring at Oakwell since February 2015 when they were defeated 2-1 by Fleetwood.

Josh Scowen’s red card was Barnsley’s first of the season.

Fulham won at Oakwell for the first time since 1970 (eight matches) and this was the first time in six trips they had even managed to score a goal. It is the first time the Cottagers have scored four times at Oakwell since 1959 when they also won 4-2.
