Barnsley 3-2 Colchester United

Last updated : 16 November 2014 By Rob Miles (BarnsleyBoy)

Barnsley have won three games in a row for the first time in 19 months when they won six on the trot.

The Reds are now unbeaten at home in three matches, their best run since February when they managed five.

Sam Winnall’s opening goal after four minutes was Barnsley’s fastest goal of the season.

The on form striker has now netted in four games in a row, the first Barnsley player to do this since Ricardo Vaz Te in 2011.

He now has eight goals in his last eight appearances.

Winnall and Conor Hourihane scored in the same game for the third time in the Reds last four matches.

Between them the pair have now scored 19 of Barnsley’s 33 goals this campaign.

Hourihane bagged his tenth goal of the season (on his 20th appearance), beating his entire total for 2013-2014.

2014-2015 is now his best ever season for goals, and if he scores six more he will beat his entire total for former club Plymouth, which he amassed over three years.

Whilst Winnall has eight goals in eight games, Hourihane has netted in four of his last five appearances.

Barnsley have opened the scoring in each of their last six matches, going on to win three of them.

Barnsley have now scored in nine games in a row in all competitions for the first time since scoring in 16 successive games between December 2012 and March 2013.

Whilst The Reds have found their shooting boots at Oakwell, scoring 15 times in their last five home matches and only Swindon (19) and Preston (18) have scored more home goals than Barnsley’s 17, Colchester’s two goals last night were the 17th and 18th Barnsley have conceded at home this season, the most in the entire Football League.

They are yet to keep a league clean sheet at home this season, compared to three on the road. It is the first time The Reds have failed to have a shut out in any of their first eight home league matches since 1987-1988.

Barnsley have lost just one of the last eight meetings with Colchester at Oakwell.

Sanchez Watt’s goal in the 15th minute was Colchester’s 50th against Barnsley.

Friday was only the U’s third defeat in 11 matches.

They have now scored in ten successive games in all competitions, their best run for exactly 12 months.

Freddie Sears has now scored in six of his last seven appearances for Colchester including each of the last three.
