Barnsley have won an FA Cup First Round tie for the fourth successive season however we cannot say progressed to the Second Round for the fourth year in a row following their expulsion in 2023-2024 despite beating Horsham.
They last lost a First Round tie 10 years ago when National League side Altrincham defeated them 1-0.
Excluding penalty shootouts Barnsley are now unbeaten in their last five home FA Cup home ties which extends to eight if you only include EFL opponents and nine if you only include inside the 90 minutes. Middlesbrough in 2014-2015 were the last EFL team to knock Barnsley out of the FA Cup at Oakwell in normal time.
Barnsley came from 1-0 down to win the tie, the first time they have won a FA Cup tie after conceding the first goal since that famous win at Liverpool in February 2008 - remarkably they did it twice that season, also defeating Blackpool 2-1 in the Third Round.
Barnsley have won a match after conceding the first goal on four occasions now this season (in four different competitions - league, EFL Cup, EFL Trophy and FA Cup)
The winner came courtesy of Marc Roberts after 90+1, the first time injury time FA Cup winner for Barnsley since the aforementioned Liverpool tie.
This is the first time Barnsley have won an FA Cup tie 3-2 since another famous cup moment - a 3-2 Fifth Round replay success against Manchester United at Oakwell in 1997-1998.
However they have scored exactly three goals in three of their last four FA Cup ties and four of their last six.
Davis Keillor-Dunn is the first Barnsley player to score a FA Cup brace since John McAtee in the 3-0 First Round replay win at Horsham in 2023-2024 and the first to do so at Oakwell since Carlton Morris in a chaotic 5-4 Third Round win over Barrow after extra time in 2021-2022.
One of Morris' strikes came in that added period therefore DKD is the first to notch a FA Cup brace in normal time since Ricardo Vaz Te in a 4-2 Third Round defeat to Swansea in 2011-2012 (to note Sam Winnall did grab a hattrick in a 5-0 win over Burton in the First Round of 2014-2015)
It is Keillor-Dunn's fourth brace for the Reds.
York thought they had forced extra time when they equalised after 87 minutes, the second time in five matches there has been two goals from the 87th minute and later in Barnsley matches (Wycombe netting after 88 and 90+3)
This is the 10th time Barnsley have conceded exactly two goals in a game this season, six of which have occurred in the last seven matches.
They have now kept only one clean sheet in their opening 18 games of a season (all comps) their worst start defensively since 2006-2007 when it took until the 21st game to achieve a second.
There were 5,953 in attendance, Oakwell’s biggest FA Cup crowd for 10 such ties, last seeing higher when 9,473 saw them lose 2-0 to Middlesbrough in the Third Round in January 2015.
Barnsley have now won each of the last nine meetings with York.
They are unbeaten in the last 16 clashes (W12 D4)
Each of the last four meetings have been in cup competitions, there has been no league meeting for 47 years.
York have now only won two of 31 meetings with the Reds winning 21.
Barnsley have now won each of the last five Oakwell meetings and seven of the last eight (D1)
This was the first time York have scored more than once at Oakwell in 72 years and 12 visits.
York have won only once at Oakwell in 16 visits which occurred in April 1967 with this tie their 12th defeat from 16 trips.
There were 30 shots in the game, the most in a game at Oakwell this season.
Fourteen of them were on target the most in any Barnsley match this season.
