As in 2011-2012, Barnsley score their first goal of the season in their fourth match, but as in that season it did not lead to victory and they have just one point from their opening three league games for the second time in three seasons and the third time in five.
Barnsley have now conceded a first half goal just once in their last eight league and cup matches- to Wigan’s Ben Watson on the opening day of this season.
The last time Barnsley threw away a 2-0 lead was on the 10th December 2011 when they led Ipswich 2-0 at the break but ended up losing 5-3.
The Reds have now won just one of their last 11 games in all competitions (excluding a penalty shootout victory)
Chris O’Grady scored both goals for Barnsley today, the last Reds player to score a brace was Chris Dagnall in the 3-1 FA Cup victory at MK Dons on the 16th February. Dagnall was also the last player to do it in a league game, in the 2-0 win over Leeds on the 12th January.
The Reds have shipped eight goals to Charlton in the Addicks last two visits to Oakwell.
In their eight games, The Reds have conceded 10 goals, with nine of them coming in the second half.
In Barnsley’s other home league game this season- the 4-0 hammering by Wigan, the attendance of 13,096 was better than the club got for 20 of their 23 home league games of 2012-2013. Despite today’s attendance of 9,554 being 3,542 lower than two weeks ago, it was still higher than the club pulled in for 13 home games last season.
