Chesterfield 2-1 Barnsley.

Last updated : 22 November 2014 By Rob Miles (BarnsleyBoy)

Barnsley saw their three match winning run come to a halt as they were defeated for the first time in five games.

The Reds have now conceded two goals in five of their past six league matches and their goals against tally of 28 is only “beaten” by the divisions bottom two sides.

Keith Treacy’s first goal since February means that Barnsley have scored in each of their last 10 games in all competitions for the first time since scoring in 16 successive games between December 2012 and March 2013.

It is the first time in six matches that either Sam Winnall or Conor Hourihane have not scored.

The Reds have only failed to score once in their first ten away games in all competitions, their best away start since 1999 when they only failed to score in one of their first 13.

Barnsley went in at the break behind for the first time in four games.

It is only the second time in six games that The Reds have conceded the first goal.

Chesterfield won in the league for the first time in eight matches and scored for the first time in five. The country’s top scorer Eoin Doyle netted his 18th and 19th goals of the season (in just 20 appearances).

His brace today was his third in the league this season and ended a five game drought for him in League One.

The Spireites have now won seven of the games Doyle has scored in this season in league and cup. They are yet to win when he hasn’t scored.

Barnsley’s late consolation was the first goal Chesterfield have conceded in four matches in all competitions.

It was only Barnsley’s second defeat in the last eight meetings with Chesterfield and only the second time in eight clashes that as many as three goals have been scored.

This odd goal game now means in 14 league clashes since Chesterfield’s 4-1 win at Oakwell in 1971, only two have featured a winner by more than one goal.
