Yet more late misery ensured
The Reds faced a Wolves team in party mood and who, judging by their performance were already on the beach. Yet still
Twice in the first half The Reds has efforts cleared off the line and when Jon Macken sent Oakwell into raptures with the opening goal after 58 minutes you could smell the safety line.
Unfortunately as has happened at
This was a very different Oakwell meeting between the two sides than in the previous two years. On those occasions
The Reds had the best chance when Jamal Campbell-Ryce's effort was parried by Hennessey to Macken, but the goalkeeper then denied Macken and when the striker flicked the ball towards goal again, Christophe Berra blocked it on the line.
Wolves had been quiet going forward and missing the league's leading scorer Sylvan Ebanks-Blake, they were left with Marlon Harewood who was surprisingly quiet.
The Reds knew they had to come out fighting after the break to get behind a Wolves side who were happy to settle for a point. The breakthrough arrived on 58 minutes when Daniel Bogdanovic's shot was blocked to Macken. His effort was saved by Hennessey but the rebound fell perfectly for Super Jon to slot home. Three parts of the stadium erupted with fans spilling onto the pitch.
But as so often happens it proved to be a false dawn. Reid, on as a sub was causing problems and he was somehow denied at full stretch by Luke Steele from close range on 64 minutes.
Campbell-Ryce nearly sealed the points on 81 minutes but Karl Henry somehow blocked his goal-bound shot and four minutes later it was heartbreak. Matt Jarvis jinked through weak challenges from Bobby Hassell and Andranik and squared the ball for Reid to smack it past Steele.
What do they say? Squeaky bum time!
