Fulham 2-1 Barnsley

Last updated : 24 December 2017 By Rob Miles

Barnsley have now gone eight games without a win, six of which have ended in defeat, their longest winless run since February - April (also 8)

A Barnsley match was goal-less at half time for only the sixth time this season (all competitions) - The Reds have gone on to lose five of those games with the other finishing goal-less - at Brentford last time out.

There were three goals scored in the second half of a Barnsley match for the second time this season, both matches have ended in 2-1 defeat (Wolves away being the other)

Tom Bradshaw grabbed Barnsley's goal, he has now scored The Reds first goal in a game on eight occasions in 2017-2018. He now has 11 goals for the season (all competitions), equalling the total of last season's top scorer Sam Winnall.

However Winnall had only netted nine by Christmas.

Bradshaw is the quickest Reds player to reach double figures in a season since Conor Hourihane in 2014-2015.

Bradshaw's goal from an Andy Yiadom cross was only their third in this eight match run winless run and their first from open play since 18 November.

This match marked the halfway stage of the season (23 games played) and Barnsley have 21 points, their lowest total at this point since 2013-2014 (16 points), they were relegated at the end of that campaign.

It is an identical record as this point in 2012-2013 (W5 D6 L12), they finished that season 21st, a point clear of relegation.

12 months ago, Barnsley had won five more games, had 13 more points and were 11 places higher in the league.

This was just the fourth time Barnsley have lost their last game before Christmas in the last 11 seasons (W:5 D:2 L:4)

Barnsley have lost each of their last three visits to Craven Cottage, their joint worst run at the stadium, they have now lost on six of their past eight visits and last secured a victory in this part of West London in 1999.

Home or away, Barnsley have lost three of the last four meetings (D1)

Andy Yiadom and Gary Gardner were the only two Barnsley players booked... they were also the only two Reds players to be shown a yellow card in the last game.

Yiadom has now been booked in three of his last four outings, Gardner has been booked in three of his last five appearances.

Yiadom's yellow card yesterday arrived in just the fourth minute – Barnsley’s earliest booking this season and the earliest in any Reds game since December of last year when Ryan Kent was cautioned just three minutes into the 3-0 win at Birmingham.

After the 1-1 draw at Norwich on the 18th November, Harvey Barnes had had a hand in eight goals in eight Championship appearances (four goals, four assists), since then The Reds have netted just twice in seven matches and Barnes has not been involved in either.

Dimitri Cavare who joined Barnsley from Rennes in August is yet to make his debut, yesterday he was in the matchday squad for the first time.

This was only Fulham's fourth win in their last 12 Championship games (W4 D3 L5) and in this run it is only the third time they have netted more than once.

Barnsley have had less than 40% possession in each of their last three meetings with Fulham, however yesterday (38%) was an improvement on last season when they only had 32% in both meetings in 2016-2017.
