Leicester 2-1 Barnsley.

Last updated : 28 September 2013 By Rob Miles (BarnsleyBoy)

Barnsley have now lost their first five away games of the season for the first time ever in their history.

This defeat was Barnsley’s fourth successive reverse, the first time this has happened in 11 months.

It is now Barnsley’s worst start for 42 years, when they also took just four points from the opening nine games of the 1971-1972 campaign. They finished that Third Division season in 22nd place and were relegated.

Barnsley further extended their run without a clean sheet and are still without one this season. This is now their longest run without a shutout from the start of a season for 47 years. Back in 1966-67, it took until the 12th league outing to secure a clean sheet.

The club’s dreadful run of form now stands at Barnsley have now won just two wins from the last 18 matches in all competitions, one of the last 12 and they have lost eight of the 11 they have played in 2013-2014.

Reds debutant goalkeeper Jack Butland picked up a caution today for conceding the penalty in which Leicester scored their second goal. It is the first time a Barnsley keeper has received a yellow card since Luke Steele was cautioned at Crystal Palace on the 6th April.
