Lincoln City 2-2 Barnsley

Last updated : 26 November 2023 By Rob Miles

Barnsley were just two minutes plus injury time away from winning a match from 1-0 down for the first time in exactly two years but instead conceded their latest equaliser since March 2022 against Stoke.

Lincoln’s opener came from the penalty spot – the sixth league goal the Reds have conceded from in this way in 2023-2024, the most in a season since conceding from eight in 2016-2017.

It is seven penalty goals in all competitions, matching the total of 2022-2023.

They have conceded from a penalty in each of their last three away league matches and it has been the opening goal in all three games.

Barnsley have conceded at least twice in each of their past two away leagues matches having not conceded more than once in any of the previous seven.

The two goals they scored themselves put them on 15 on their travels in League One in 2023-2024, only Stevenage and Oxford with 16 have netted more away from home.

Overall Barnsley have conceded at least twice in three successive league games for the first time since the final three league games of 2022-2023.

Lincoln’s opener was the fifth league goal Barnsley have conceded in  the opening ten minutes this season, three of which have come from the penalty spot, they only conceded twice in the league in this timeframe last season and one of those was the season finale against Peterborough.

John McAtee is the second player after Devante Cole to both score and assist in a game this season.

Barnsley have failed to win any of their last four meetings with Lincoln in all competitions (D2 L2) with this match the first time Barnsley had even scored in that run.

Prior to these four games they had won three of the previous four but they are the only wins in the last 15 clashes.

Barnsley are though unbeaten in their last four visits to Lincoln (W2 D2) and have lost only three of the last 11 trips (W5 D3)
