Stockport staged a marvellous second-half comeback against shell-shocked Barnsley to increase the pressure on Tykes boss Steve Parkin.

Carlton Palmer's side were 1-0 down to Rory Fallon's first-half strike but four goals in 12 second-half minutes turned the game on its head.

Stockport's leading scorer Luke Beckett notched two goals to take his tally for the season to eight and Jim Goodwin scored his first goals for the club since his summer transfer from Celtic.

Barnsley boss Parkin, who recently met with his board to discuss his team's indifferent start to the season, was disgusted with the way his side threw away a winning position with some sloppy defending.

"The lads have got to take a very close look at themselves after today's performance," he said after the game. "We threw away the lead and once we went behind we just gave up and didn't put up a fight.

"We had the best of the first half and deserved to go in ahead but what happened after that was a nightmare."

Naturally his opposite number Palmer, who had a terrific game at the heart of the Stockport defence, was full of praise for the spirit of his young side.

"The players have responded in the right manner after two defeats.

"I'm always telling the players that if we put in good performances the results will come but we've played well in the last two games and lost them.

"With young lads they always want to do well, and when you play well and don't win it's dispiriting.

"The turning point was perhaps the rollicking I gave them at half time.

"We didn't have any tempo and nobody in this league is as fit as us. There might be better teams but there are none with the same fitness levels."

Fallon fired Barnsley ahead in the 28th minute, popping up at the far post to force home a cross from Kevin Betsy.

But County were level in the 63rd minute when Beckett crossed to the far post and, when John Daly's powerful header came back off goalkeeper Andy Marriott, Goodwin smashed his shot in from close range.

Within three minutes Stockport were ahead as Beckett twisted inside full-back Dave Mulligan and fired a low shot under Marriott.

The turnaround continued in the 71st minute as John Hardiker lofted a free-kick into the area and when Barnsley only half-cleared the ball, Goodwin picked his spot from the edge of the box.

The final goal was a cracker. Ali Gibb played a one-two with substitute Keith Briggs on the right and picked out a perfect cross for the unmarked Beckett to thump home a header
